Further Training with Dr. Horst Sperber
in Mnemonic Techniques for
German as a Foreign Language

If you are already working with the POWER-Learning-Kit for German grammar, you are surely having similar experiences like many others who have sent me enthusiastic feedback. You probably thought: "It's incredible! Why aren’t we using mnemonic techniques much more when teaching or learning German as a foreign language? And why aren't my colleagues (not yet) aware of these techniques?"

In any case, these were my own thoughts a few years ago about this topic; that's why I am so enthusiastic about it today. You now have THE opportunity, to personally organize a teacher training workshop at your institute with Dr. Horst Sperber. To a certain extent, he's the forefather for memory techniques for German as a foreign language. He's already conducted a great number of workshops world-wide for the past 17 years and further training with him in this area is an lasting experience, about which you will reminisce at your institution for a long time.

What you can expect as a teacher or student
of German in one of Dr. Sperber's mnemonic techniques
workshops for German as a foreign language

  • A short overview of the most important aspects regarding learning and memorizing.
  • Concrete aids which greatly enhance learning and memorizing.
  • A day on which not theory but practice stands in the foreground. A day of little writing and many hands-on-activities.
  • At least 10 memory techniques which will lead to a fast and reliable memorization of the German article (der - die - das).
  • How to get irregular (strong) verbs under control by using a verb scheme that fits on only one piece of paper.
  • A playing mode possibility to anchor German verbs using the auxiliary verb "sein" in the present perfect tense.
  • 4 memory techniques to categorize and remember prepositions by case.
  • A way to better remember verbs with an object in the dative case and a way to learn them more reliably with firm prepositions.
  • A number of ways to acquire, reinforce and expand one's vocabulary.
  • A day on which all senses are employed with much humor and fantasy and a day on which one doesn't notice how quickly time is passing due to the fun being had.
Starting in Oct 2011, Dr. Sperber would be happy and ready to conduct further training in the area of mnemonic techniques for German as a foreign language at your institution (also outside of Germany). One-day to three-day workshops are possible.
